I'm with Brent Scott with Premier Home Inspection today. I am asked often “Should I get a Home Inspection?”
Give me a 1-minute good story for home inspections.
About Home Inspections, okay. This is what I did recently and it's all about POOP!
This was an older home, super cute. They had done such a good job.
The paint was beautiful, the cabinets were gorgeous, all the stainless-steel appliances, really modern nice subway tile, really, really cute house!
Chip & Joanna feel? Oh yeah, oh yeah, farmhouse shabby chic...
It's one of those you walk in and think WOW they did a great job.
Really cute. And the young couple there buying it... it was their first home. They were just excited, so a lot of fun!
And I go to the crawl space, which is not my favorite part, but it's part of it. And that's always a process and this is one that… well… I started making my way into it. I realized real quick that they had not spent as much time. On the crawl space is maybe they had the interior of the home, things that are easy to see.
And I'd made my way in 10 to 15 feet and I started to notice a smell that was just incredibly unpleasant. It's a smell we all recognize. And I start questioning my own hygiene, what's going on in and I get under the one... There's only one bathroom in this house.
I get in under the one bathroom and the toilet... that was new!
New toilet in the bathroom.
Comfort height? Yes, clean. Ha! Ha!
But it had never gotten connected to the drain.
OOOH! Yeah.
So that answered my question about the smell... And it had all the things, all the things that we would expect to come out of a toilet.
We're now in these people's crawl space below this beautiful house.
So that's the story that popped in my mind,
when you asked for an interesting story that's happened recently.
Ok, you never know what you're going to find in the crawl space.
It's important to go down there!
